Dog dilemma

Help.

Situation desperate.

We've both decided we hate the name Bixby. And I think she's decided it too, because she doesn't really respond to it. Not any more than she does to "Baby", "Sweetie", or "Annoying!" anyway.

But we can't agree on what to name her.

I want something strong-yet-feminine, with either a classic reference or some sort of other relation. I want something that is both partly dignified and partly affectionate.

Andrew wants "Belly".

It's tough, because we really did amazingly well with Jupe. Jupiter can be dignified, or it could be Jupiter the Poopiter, or the Jupe, or Jupie. As soon as Andrew suggested Jupiter, it was like, "Hey! Yeah! That's what is name IS!"

With her? Not so much. Nothing has struck us right.

I kind of liked Callisto, one of the attendents of Artemis, who was turned into Ursa Major by Zeus (it's a longer story than that, but then, with those Greeks, it always is). But Callisto is also a moon of Jupiter. It's a silly minor point, but I think it being a sattelite of our former dog's name helped tip wavering balances over to the "no" side.

Other names considered and rejected:

Can you guess which I rejected and which Andrew rejected?

Our shortlist, and I mean short list, so far:

Any suggestions?

The girl is soft, cuddly, vigilant, responsive, smart, adventurous, tireless, strong, affectionate, protective, and ours.

She's possibly part German Shepherd (according to Oregon Humane Society), Belgian Malinois (according to our vet), or part Australian Kelpie (according to a dog trainer, which, based on pictures, really seems the most likely so far).

When she sits, she sits like an Egyptian dog statue, very straight up and down, with pointy alert ears.

Stay tuned. We'll let you know if we come up with anything!!!
